Natural ice caves are realistically a November-to-March proposition, and February and March are when the ice has done its work.
The cave I think about most was the Crystal Ice Cave in February 2020. What Surprised Me About Vatnajökull
What surprised me was how temporary the caves are. A cave that existed last week can be gone when your jeep arrives, while the glacier surface stays walkable through the year.
I learned this bluntly in December 2021. The guide stopped the super jeep and walked fifty metres to where the cave entrance should have been.
